Cheness Delux Non-Sharpened Carbon Steel IaitoCheness Delux Non-Sharpened Carbon Steel Iaito3
IN STOCKUnsharpened blade for iaido practice. Unlike other iaito, weighted like a REAL Katana.
With the very best quality to price ratio of ANY iaito on the market, the Delux Non-Sharpened Iaito is destined to be a Cheness classic.
Like its cheaper cousin the standard Cheness Non-sharpened Iaito, the Delux hand forged, hand polished and features a full length nakago (tang) and double mekugi (retaining pins) making it perfect for the iaido student on a budget (and also quite suitable for stage and film purposes).
Where it is different is that the ito wrap has less stretch and feels tighter, making it perfect for frequent dojo usage - and it also has a much stronger, more solid tsuba than the alloy one the standard budget iaito (not to mention, the black same and brown ito combination of the Deluxe is extremely eye pleasing).
With a bo-hi (fuller) as standard, the blade is much closer in weight and handling to a real Katana than most other iaito on the market - and has a very loud and impressive Tachi-Kaze ('Sword-Wind-Sound') when swung at the ideal trajectory, making it an invaluable training tool to develop accurate and fast techniques.
Though blunted to reduce the risk of injuries (except for the kissaki tip, which is traditionally sharp), iaito can still be very dangerous and should be handled with the respect due to a live blade. Blades available in custom lengths of 27", 28" and 29".

I bought this Iaito for my son when he started looking at cheap 3 sword sets on Amazon. I looked around and found this site. An amazing wealth of knowledge and down to earth information. The sword itself exceeded the already high expectations I had from other reviews of . I saw only one negative review and it was that the blade was too sharp. We didn't have that experience. The blade is not sharp (the tip is, however) The wrap is tight, the fittings are sturdy, the sword is perfectly balanced and weighted correctly. The saya is well made the hamon is nice. I highly recommend these folks and would probably buy anything they carry on this site just based solely on our joy with this purchase.
Thank you Sword Buyer's Guide!

Although this iaito is advertised as non-sharpened it did not come this way. It may not be razor sharp, but it is sharp enough to cut if not perfectly correct during practice. My school will not permit the practice with a blade this sharp, so we'll see how good SBG customer service is. I am disappointed since I was hoping to use this iaito in class. Here's hoping there is a favorable outcome to this event. This was my first purchase with SBG, I trust it won't be my last if there is a favorable outcome. Thanks for listening.
