With a broader, thinner blade designed to maximize it’s cutting potential on Tatami Omote: the Practical Plus XL Light Katana has the same blade as the Practical XL Light Katana, but uses higher quality and more traditional fittings and construction methods.
Featuring deeply cut grooves (bo-hi) to reduce the weight of the blade while retaining most of its strength and cutting ability, this weight reduction makes for a much quicker and beautifully balanced sword, well adapted for lightning fast multiple cuts on the same target.
The blade is forged and differentially tempered (HRC60 edge, HRC40 back) and the hamon is prominent. The Practical Plus XL Light features genuine Same (Rayskin) on the Tsuka, with a tightly-woven cotton wrap (Tsuka-Ito). The long tang is double-pegged for security. The fittings of the Practical Plus XL are decorated in a Japanese Dogwood motif with dragon menuki, and the handsome Tsuba is of an iron “sunburst” design with a brass habaki.
