Hanwei Practical Katanas have always been at the forefront of providing economical yet functional swords to the martial arts community, and the Practical XL is no exception...
The fittings are kept basic to keep costs down - a black synthetic suede ito handle wrap and the instantly recognizable matt black tsuba, it can also be dissasembled for customization if so desired - a feauture that was absent on the older epoxied Practical Katana series.
The blade profile is the new XL wide blade style, designed for serious dojo applications and cutting of Tatami Omote - though the ridiculously sharp and hard edge may pose problems on targets harder than those designed to simulate the human body.
Essentially, it is a precision scalpel like blade designed for the serious practitioner.
The only difference between the XL and the XL Light is that the XL Light features a bo-hi (Fuller/blood groove) designed to lighten the blade and make it perform faster for multiple cuts on the same target, while the XL has a more focused 'one cut, one kill' approach.
KEY FEATURES
- Specialized for cutting Tatami Mats
- Includes Fuller to lighten the blade weight and balance
