Darkswords interpretation of a Dark Age (476–800AD) sword is a very interesting hybrid of earlier Mediterranean leaf shaped blades with Germanic hilting techniques.

There may or may not have historically been a sword that looked like this in the Dark Ages, but since so few swords from this period survive, we may never really know.

All this aside though, the leaf shaped blade makes this sword an ideal cutter when sharpened, and it's weight and balance makes it a very powerful and barbaric weapon indeed - though it can be a little hard to control.
