The Forge Direct Kara Tachi is a replica of an ancient Nara Period (646 ~ 794 AD) sword used by the early versions of the Samurai Warrior class and an early predecessor of the Katana. Designed to be worn hung from the belt from two points (ashi) with the edge facing downwards, it was a popular Cavalry weapon of the period and continued to be in use along side the Katana into the Muromachi period (1392 ~ 1573 AD) and in a modified form until the more peaceful Edo Period.
The blade is made of T10 Tool Steel, differentially tempered and with a natural hamon - fittings are all of the highest quality wood and brass with silver plated brass plates depicting ancient Chinese warriors fighting (as studied by the Samurai in the Chinese classics), which was common during the Nara period when Japan was still learning a great deal from China, including sword making..
Do not be fooled by cheap and nasty imitations, this sword is the real deal. Almost never seen out of China due to the uncertain market demand and high expense of production. However, with Forge Direct, you have a rare opportunity to order one of your own with FREE worldwide shipping right here at the SBG Sword Store!
