This Falchion, based on a find in the River Yare in England dated to the early 1300's, is the culmination of years of obsessing over the design and performance by Gus on the single edge sword-hilted blades of the medieval age. These swords and their close cousin the German Messer are commonly known to be brutish, hacking things with no skill required to wield them against foe or tree alike. This is quite far from the truth of the matter. In fact we have surviving period fencing manuals detailing the specialized techniques these swords are capable of performing in the hands of a skilled combatant.
Gus's interpratation of this sword is quick in the hand while maintaining authority in the cut. The nearly parallel sharpened edges curve gracefully to a wicked point. The blade is specially heat-treated 5160 spring steel with a single blackened fuller. The guard and pommel are blackened mild steel, the grip is cord-wrapped wood with a high quality dyed leather overwrap. The hilt is attached in Gus's permanent-peen assembly system, where the hilt is tightened over a period of several days to ensure a rock-solid fit.
The River Yare Falchion would have been a devastating weapon of war, prized dearly by it's owner and passed down to future generations. Now you can do the same.
Individually made by Gus himself, these swords will be available in limited quantities.
