Forge Direct Han Dynasty Ring Pommel Dao

The Han Dynasty Dao is a unique style of sword from the early to middle Han period (approx 206BC to 1AD) and was a sword well ahead of its time. From the folded blade to help even out any impurities in the metal to the differentially hardened edge and thicker, but softer, shock absorbent spine - these terrifying blades were had a slight inward curve and were optimized for a shearing cut from horseback - phasing out the double edged two handed blades of the Warring States period.
One common and distinctive feature of these early Chinese fighting swords was the titular ring pommel design, which helped to balance the blade towards the tip to generate additional force on a downward swing, but was also used as a kind of early lanyard by tying a rope from the ring pommel to the users hand to ensure they did not lose the blade in the heat of combat.
With a 27.6" long and fullered blade, it is surprisingly lightweight weighing in at just under 2lbs and a true joy to cut with. Try cutting with it once and you will quickly understand how this grandaddy of the Chinese Dao dominated the battlefield for hundreds of years and was the foundation for later period Dao and the Japanese Katana.
Fittings are made from high quality brass and the handle and scabbard made from Premium Black Ebony with buffalo horn inserts in the scabbard mouth for maximum longevity and scabbard strength/stability.
Do not be fooled by cheap and nasty imitations, this blade is the real deal. Almost never seen out of China due to the uncertain market demand and high expense of production. However, with Forge Direct, you have a rare opportunity to order one of your own with FREE worldwide shipping right here at the SBG Sword Store!
