ART SHOULD HURT
The basic philosophy behind the Ryujin Art Sword Line is to take the best examples of one most often misrepresented steels on the sword market, 1045 Carbon Steel and deck it out with fittings to make it really stand out - functional sword art that ANYONE can afford.
The blade of this sword is monotempered 1045 carbon steel, sharpened and with a faux hamon. Full tang, properly tempered and heat treated and quite functional - while it's decent length of steel, it is not the blade that is the focus of this piece, but rather the unique and extremely attractive fittings balancing it between functionality and aesthetics.
It certainly can be used for kata or cutting practice. 1045 carbon steel blades are often passed off as higher grade steels if well tempered like these swords are - and weighing only 2.2lbs with bo-hi it's a fast, nimble blade in its own right - and is decorated with a faux hamon temper line.
Apart from the tsunami themed Dragon Tsuba and attractive alloy fittings, the most prominent feature of this sword would have to be the classic Dragon graphic printed under the lacquer of the glossy black saya to look like a much more expensive hand painted sheathe often costing several hundred dollars by itself at its cheapest.
All in all, it's just a great looking piece - and is functional enough for some good old fashioned light backyard cutting (water filled bottles, soft wood saplings, light bamboo, etc) in fact a well tempered 1045 carbon steel blade is often passed off as 1060, 9260 or whatever is the 'super steel' of the month because it's stronger than you might think. If you weren't told they were mass produced, it could be all to easy for unscrupulous sellers to present these swords to you at considerably higher prices (we have seen the exact same swords for sale on Amazon for $125 plus shipping - most charge $100 or more!).
Great value no matter which way you look at it - sword art priced so that ANYONE can afford it.
