STEP BY STEP CUSTOMIZATION
Select each customization from the drop down menu at the top of the page. Starting with:
BLADE LENGTH
Select from 3 standard blade lengths depending on your preference and your arm length and overall size.
- 22" Blade (for KoKatana and Wakizashi)
- 26" Blade (for smaller practitioners)
- 28" Blade (standard average Katana length)
- 30" Blade (for taller folk)
The blade is measured from the batch notch of the habaki (blade collar) all the way to the tip. You also select the handle, Katana 10.5" tsuka for Katana and KoKatana and 6" for Wakizashi.
SELECT BO-HI OPTIONS
Choose if you would prefer a solid bodied blade (i.e. with no bo-hi or engraved line down the blade to lighten it slightly) or from two types of bo-hi.
SELECT THE HABAKI
The habaki, or blade collar, is available in 4 different variations.
SELECT IRON TSUBA
The tsuba is a central part of the overall theme of your sword. We have a selection of 24 classic Edo period replica tsuba, all as solid as they come and made from iron.
SELECT FUCHIGASHIRA AND MENUKI
Next you will want to decide from 4 different sets of Fuchi and Kashira, which are the iron anchor points that bind the handle together. You can also select which handle ornament, or menuki, you would like added, which is tucked away under handles ito wrap and helps give the handle form and serves as a kind of lucky charm.
SELECT ITO COLOR AND STYLE
Now it's time for a splash of color - 8 different synthetic silk colors are available, and for a modest additional fee, a tightly wrapped leather ito is also available. Here you also select which style you would like the ito wrapped in, either a standard Hineri-maki configuration or Katakemaki (so called 'battle wrap').
SELECT SAMEGAWA COLOR
Select from three different colors of genuine rayskin that will show in the diamonds under the handles ito wrap - white, black and red.
SELECT A SAYA COLOR AND STYLE
Last couple of steps, simply select which type of finish and color you would like for your swords wooden sheathe (saya). There are 10 standard options and 3 premium ones which require some additional payment.
STANDARD OPTION SAYA
PREMIUM SAYA OPTIONS
SELECT SAGEO
The final step is to select the sageo (cord) which is attached to the sheathe. Generally it is best to match it closely with the color of the ito, but the final choice is up to you (when in doubt, select black - it goes with almost everything).
And then, sit back and relax and in 7-14 days we will let you know it has been completed and is on the way!
