Made in the late Edo period (approx 1781-1789), this antique Nihonto was forged by the 6th generation smith Hizen koku Omino kami Tadayoshi, young brother of 5th Tadayoshi and was a famous smith of the Hizen Nabeshima Domain.
A stunning example of his work with no battle damage, it has a clear and distinct straight suguha hamon on it's 2 shaku 3 sun 3 bu (27.5") nagasa blade and requires no additional polishing to appreciate its beauty.
Additionally, it comes fully decked out with some truly beautiful koshirae - from its rich copper, gold gilded 'Lion Dog in the clouds' tsuba and fuchigashira, to the golden Lion Dog Menuki - all designed to bring good luck and ward off evil spirit like a talisman. But the sword is taken to new heights with the amazingly detailed Lion Dog themed, gold leaf inlaid saya - a piece of art in its own right.
