Mainstay of the Highland warriors of the late 15th and 16th centuries, the Claymore had a uniquely styled hilt that sets it apart from other great swords of the period. Typically of longsword length, this versatile weapon could deliver great sweeping slashes or powerful thrusts. Replicated from a surviving museum piece the Hanwei Claymore is classic in its design, with distinctive sloping quillons terminating in quatrefoils and a high-collared quillon block with langets following the blade fuller. The leather-covered grip is topped by a globate pommel. This version of the sword has an antiqued finish, closely replicating that of the original museum piece. The grip is leather-covered.

Tough as they come 08/03/2021

I've owned my Hanwei Claymore for a while now and lemme tell you, this thing is robust and sturdy! If you want a sword that gives you that feeling of being an anime protagonist, this is the one.

I've done some admittedly stupid things with this one I wouldn't advise any sane person to perform with a much nicer sword, and came out pleasantly surprised with how well made and strong this sword is. From cutting into 2x4s to smashing into cinderblocks, this thing just stays resilient. I feel like I could really take on an entire army with this sword, it's that good. And the faux antique finish reduces my need for maintenance and any damages sustained add character to the blade itself, giving it a rugged feeling of a weapon that's seen battle

I did some homework before and after making my purchase and have found that there are a fair number of mentions of this sword having some catastrophic failures that resulted in the sword going beyond repaid, but I personally so far have not have had any issues after owning mine for about 2+ years now, roughly. So buyer beware, I'd feel remiss without acknowledging the failures that others have had with this particular model. But I personally feel like I've been very lucky with this sword. I know that considering my rough treatment of this sword, my luck will run out eventually but given how this sword just smiles and asks for more as I do more increasingly dangerous and dumb stunts with it (things I advise you not to repeat - I'm just reckless and like to put my own health at risk for a thrill), I feel like that it's a long ways away before I have to worry about that.

It's not the most graceful sword but it's not meant to be. If you're looking for something to do HEMA or do more advanced techniques, this isn't the sword for you; It's heavy, overbuilt, and clunky.

But if you're looking for something for some backyard fun that makes you feel like the hero from your favorite fantasy novels and won't give out on you when you do something a little reckless? I'd recommend this immediately.

Pros:
Extremely tough, powerful blade
Solid Construction
Faux antique finishing reduces the need for maintenance

Cons:
Heavy and not particularly graceful
Not every sword is made equal; lemons abound in this patch.

Overall, I'm extremely happy with the Hanwei Claymore. I definitely recommend this sword and if you're lucky enough to get one well made, it can really feel heirloom worthy. I definitely would advise taking measures to ensure you get one worth your money, because they feel absurdly resilient and strong.
