RK Euro Model 4 - Italian Arming Sword
Single handed medieval arming sword with fish tail pommel - 1075 TH carbon steel blade.
Taking a decades worth of experience with the best sword forges in Longquan (whose own sword making history dates back THOUSANDS of years) and combining it with the best practices of modern, fully functional European sword replicas - the end result is Ronin Katana's line of high quality, hand forged battle ready medieval swords - now available for immediate shipping at a price that practically any enthusiast can afford.
Each sword in this range is hand forged from top quality 1075 carbon steel, properly heat treated for strength and flexibility and sharpened so you can use them for cutting straight out of the box (or if you prefer, used to cut up the box, though be sure to take out the form fitting Styrofoam, added to protect against damage in transit). But no reason to stop there, these swords can easily cut water filled bottles of all shaped and sizes, super thick bamboo, tatami mats, you name it - they can handle it!
The swords vary in design and while not based on any particular medieval sword are historically plausible and designed to exhibit great handling and cutting dynamics rarely found at this price point.
Every model comes with a REAL black leather wrapped wooden core handle, all steel fittings for maximum durability and PEENED pommel for extra durability. Every sword also comes with a wooden core, leather wrapped scabbard as a free bonus.
Simply amazing value for money and a return to affordable medieval swords where every other maker has doubled or tripled their prices means that they will sell out fast, so grab one while you can!
This particular model is not based on any historical sword though it is historically plausible- if it was historical it would have been a late 14th century design and one of the last singled handed fighting swords of the Oakeshott Type XII class with the fish tail pommel extending the effective grip length and allowing the sword to be used in a hand and a half manner. Ready to cut straight out of the box.

Let me start with: This is my first sword. So here goes...
Shipping: Fast, ordered on Thursday and received on Monday.
Could have been better. Double boxed, but the sword it self was held in place by Styrofoam blocks. Evidently the it wanted to play and bludgeoned them to death. Styrofoam everywhere. I hate styro. Bubble wrap would be much better.
The sword: Flat out gorgeous!!!
The blade was perfect. Sharp but not super sharp.
You could definitely slit your gizzard right out of the box.
The edge was nice no burs or chatter marks. The fullers are well done.
The hilt and handle: Leather cord wrapped handle was nice and tight. The peening on the pomeral was almost invisible. There was a little unevenness Where the peen was filed down but again you had to look hard to see it.
There were a couple of scratches on the guard, but not noticeable unless you used a bright light and looked hard. All parts were TIGHT.
The scabbard: Well, let's just say it does not do justice to the sword. This seems to be Ronin Katanas only downfall as it is a running point of contention throughout the line. The option of a "deluxe" model would be nice. The belt and suspension is cheesy and looks like what you would use for a Halloween costume.
Balance: Noticeably nose heavy with a single handed grip. The fish tail pommeral combined with the length of the handle makes for a perfect two handed grip...At least for me with hands between a medium and large glove size. Using two hands makes the nose heavy feeling disappear...Nice!
The only negative (other than scabbard and suspension) is that the tip of the sword is much more pointed than what the picture shows. It looks potentially like a failure point. Reshaping it might be necessary, but only time and usage will tell...
Overall I am happy with the quality of the sword and would consider another from Ronin Katana. As for purchasing from SBG again...That is a definite YES!
I am torn between 4 and 5 stars, but I have to give it 4 just because of the scabbard, suspension, and tip shape not matching picture. All of which can be rectified.
On a side note...Walking around the yard with this should make the neighbors twitch!!!
