The original design for Striders Rangers sword was made and designed at the WETA Workshops by Peter Lyon. His inspiration for the sword was based loosely on the proportions of a late 15th century Bastard/Hand and a Half Sword, though with many of the fittings being non historical and the product of pure imagination.
While not a direct copy of Peter's work, it is obviously heavily inspired by it. Made from tempered 5160 Spring Steel with hand carved steel fittings, leaher grip over wood core hilt and a scabbard that matches the sweeping curves of the distinctive ricasso - it is a fitting tribute to and a salute to his work and the works of J.R.R. Tolkein that inspired it in the first place..
The blade of this sword is hand forged from 5160 carbon steel and hand tempered. The pommel and cross guard is also solid carbon steel with copper diamond inlays, then highly polished. The handle is wood wrapped in black suede leather. Sword also includes a wood scabbard wrapped in black leather with steel accents at throat and tip.
