The Tang Dynasty (618-907AD) is considered by many scholars to be the high point of Chinese Civilization.
Already well ahead of most other nations, by the Tang Dynasty Chinese swords were highly sophisticated - folding the blades to even out the carbon content, differentially hardening the edges and laminating various steels together to create the ultimate sword - a sword that was hard enough to cut a large variety of targets without losing it's edge yet flexible enough that it would not break or shatter when it encountered something too hard for it to penetrate.
So advanced and effective were these swords that they were exported to nearby Korea and Japan in vast quantities. And it was from swords like this functional replica is based upon that were the basis from which the Korean Jingum and the Japanese Katana was reverse engineered from - with swords like this displacing the Jian of earlier centuries and coming to dominate the Asian battlefields from the 7th to the 10th century AD.
