The AzureForge C02 is a historically inspired German longsword that blends the clean diamond‑section geometry of Oakeshott’s XVIIIa blades with the broader cutting presence of XVIIIc forms. This hybrid XVllla interpretation reflects the evolution of late‑15th‑century German swordcraft, where hand‑and‑a‑half and full two‑handed blades were optimized for both armoured fighting and powerful unarmoured cuts. AzureForge recreates this lineage with modern precision, producing a sword that feels authentic in hand while benefiting from contemporary metallurgy and craftsmanship.
The blade is forged from 65Mn spring steel and heat‑treated to bend up to fifteen degrees without deformation. It carries a satin medieval texture with a fifty‑percent mirror polish and is free of grind marks. The guard and pommel are crafted from polished 304 stainless steel in the traditional German writhen style, echoing the twisted metalwork seen in original 15th‑century examples. The hilt uses a beech‑wood core wrapped in hand‑stitched top‑grain cowhide, shaped with an ergonomic circumference that provides a secure and comfortable grip during extended handling.
The scabbard is built around a wooden core and covered in top‑grain cowhide with brass accents, offering durability, rust resistance, and ease of carry. With a center of gravity just under three inches from the guard, the sword balances well for a weapon of its size, delivering authoritative cuts while remaining manageable in two‑handed use.
AzureForge brings over a decade of sword‑making experience to the AzureClassic Series, focusing on traditional craft restoration and historically grounded designs. Each sword is handmade, and minor tolerances in weight or length are normal for non‑mass‑produced items. A small probability of minor steel imperfections may occur due to material properties, but quality control remains strict. AzureForge encourages feedback and continuously iterates designs based on user experience.
This sword is suitable for historical reenactment, collection, and display, offering a faithful medieval aesthetic supported by modern durability. It ships quickly from our US warehouse for fast domestic delivery.
