Set of two Bamboo Kendo Training Swords (Shinai) - 47" total length.
With a tradition traced back nearly 500 years prior, the Shinai (竹刀 - literally 'bamboo sword', though the reading of the Kanji is an exception and also means 'flexible sword') was refined over the centuries until its current form used in the Japanese national sport of Kendo (way of the sword).
Originally designed to minimize the number of serious or even fatal injuries incurred training with wooden swords (Bokken).
Constructed from four slats of bamboo held together with three hard wearing faux leather wrappings, which also marks the sweet spot (best point for striking with a sword for maximum power and minimum vibration - the Monouchi) with an orange string marking where the edge of the blade should be to be mindful of edge alignment when attacking or defending. The tip is blunted for safety with a rubber tip. Includes a standard sized tsuba (hand guard).
