Short blade, long grip, and a whole lot of bite—“Ritterstahl” is a compact bastard sword built for control, power, and versatility. With battlefield roots and a price that borders on absurd, it’s ready to earn its place in your arsenal.
The “Ritterstahl” (German for “Knight’s Steel”) is a hand-and-a-half sword designed for fighters who value agility without sacrificing authority. Its blade is compact and broad, delivering powerful cuts and precise thrusts, while the extended grip offers the option for two-handed control when the moment demands it.
This is a sword that feels substantial in hand—responsive, balanced, and built to move. The longer hilt gives it a tactical edge, allowing for quick transitions between single-handed and two-handed techniques. Whether you’re reenacting, training, or cutting, the “Ritterstahl” is a blade that adapts to your style.
Its fittings are clean and functional: a straight guard and a classic wheel pommel, paired with a hand and a half, leather-wrapped grip. The result is a sword that’s historically inspired but unapologetically practical.

This is a fine hand and half sword at an exceptional price.
Anyone who has practiced with the Talhoffer Manual will appreciate the speed and handling characteristics of this blade.
The blade is quality and well tempered, and very quick and responsive. It arrived well sharpened and performed well on my bamboo targets.
The cord wrapped handle is really well done, and gives very good purchase on the grip. The sliding rings are a cool feature, and the grip feels natural and sound in use.
The fittings are balanced and accentuate the sword's handling characteristics, but I would not trust them to hold in actual combat.
The most surprising thing about this sword was the high quality scabbard and belt set up that is included with it.
I doubt the material is real leather, but it is clean, well made, and fits the sword great. It also looks nice and retains well. Just saying that at this price it really surprised me.
If you are looking for an affordable entry blade in the longsword family this sword would be a nice pick up.
I love it as exercise blade, partly because I'm not afraid of damaging or scuffing it up with use. It is quite fast and the 65mn blade is tough and sound.
Pros: Affordability, Speed, Agility, and Robust Performance in target cutting and cutting exercises. A solid western Dojo Sword. Very nicely done scabbard and belt rig for draw practice or wearing.
Cons: Lower grade metal pommel and hilt/guard fittings. Again, these will protect the wielder in target work and are balanced well for handling. They are also securely mounted and tight.
Yet if you had to duel someone, I would't want to count on them.
For the money, I would absolutely recommend this sword.
