The Practical Plus Katana returns with all the features that made it a great katana but with some great improvements.
Keeping with our promise for upgrades and advancement, the crisp and clean new look of the furniture (tsuba, fuchi, kashira, menuki) comes from the new tooling of this classic design that will remind you of the early originals. Still featuring the blade geometry of the differentially hardened and forged 1566 forge steel blade of the original.
After the success of the Practical Katana in the early 2000s, the Practical Plus Katana emerged as the next logical step in economical katana ownership. The Practical Plus Katana from CAS Hanwei provides a very economical cutting sword as dependable as the Practical Katana, but using more traditional fittings and construction methods and a more prominent hamon. The Practical Plus katana features genuine same (rayskin) on the tsuka (handle), with a tsuka-ito (wrap) specially developed for its gripping qualities. The traditional length tang is double-pegged and allows for removal of the tsuka for cleaning and maintenance.
The fittings of the Practical Plus Katana are decorated in a Japanese Dogwood motif with dragon menuki and the handsome tsuba is of an iron “sunburst” design with a brass habaki. Elevating the elegance and adding more striking beauty to the sword art of the katana, the Practical Plus Katana just makes owning all that a little more affordable and traditionally made. This katana has become one of the favorites of practitioners and collectors alike.
