A powerful yet surprisingly agile 15th‑century inspired longsword, the Windlass Classic Bastard Sword returns by popular demand. Complete with a matching scabbard and arriving factory sharp, this is a versatile, historically grounded weapon ready for display or cutting practice.
The Windlass Classic Bastard Sword is a commanding recreation of the powerful hand‑and‑a‑half swords that dominated European battlefields in the late 15th century. Massive in presence yet surprisingly light and responsive, it embodies the transitional period when knights and men‑at‑arms needed a weapon capable of both sweeping cuts and decisive thrusts against increasingly varied armor. It is easy to imagine a sword like this being carried at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485, its broad blade carving through the chaos of the Tudor advance.
The blade is hand‑forged from high‑carbon steel and tempered for strength, giving it the durability and cutting performance expected from a true battlefield weapon. Its wide profile and long reach offer tremendous authority in the swing, yet the sword remains remarkably well balanced, allowing quick recoveries and fluid transitions between one‑handed and two‑handed techniques. The seven‑inch grip is wrapped in soft black leather and divided by a steel separator ring, providing a secure, comfortable hold whether used with a single hand or both.
Windlass has finished the hilt with an antiqued, darkened patina on the crossguard and pommel, giving the sword the appearance of a veteran campaigner rather than a freshly polished parade piece. The included scabbard completes the package, offering a practical and historically appropriate way to store or display the blade. Arriving sharpened from the factory, this sword is ready for cutting practice, reenactment, or simply to serve as a striking centerpiece in any collection.
A true bastard sword was valued for its versatility — long enough to deliver the reach and leverage of a greatsword, yet compact enough to wield with one hand when needed. This reproduction captures that spirit perfectly, offering the power of a war sword with the agility of a knight’s sidearm. It is a piece that feels alive in the hand, steeped in the martial traditions of the late Middle Ages, and built to be used, not merely admired.
