The updated Hanwei Tactical Katana represents a major refinement of one of the most rugged production blades on the market. Built around the proven geometry created by James Williams for the Raptor series, the sword retains its reputation for exceptional toughness. The 5160 monotempered spring steel blade is designed to withstand heavy use, absorb shock, and keep cutting reliably in demanding conditions. With a full‑tang construction and a blade profile optimized for strength, this katana remains a dependable tool for field work, training, and practical cutting.
The most significant upgrade is the new removable G10 handle system. The previous Kraton grip has been replaced with diamond‑checkered G10 slabs that can be removed for cleaning, maintenance, or future customization. The grip has been reshaped with a more rounded profile to improve comfort during extended use while maintaining a secure hold even when wet. The fittings have also been improved, with the tsuba and kurikata now made from matte‑finished stainless steel to increase durability and give the sword a cleaner, more modern tactical appearance. Internal adjustments to the tang and habaki construction support the new removable‑handle design without compromising structural integrity.
The fiberglass scabbard remains lightweight and resistant to moisture, avoiding the swelling or warping issues associated with wood. A lanyard hole and included paracord allow for flexible carry and attachment options, making the sword practical for outdoor environments and emergency situations. The overall design philosophy continues to focus on removing unnecessary ornamentation and maximizing functional performance.
The result is a modernized Tactical Katana that is stronger, more modular, and more capable than ever, while still carrying the cutting pedigree and durability that made the original Raptor‑inspired design so respected.
