Hanwei Classic Bastard Sword
Fully functional high carbon steel bastard sword with a dark, somewhat sinister appearance. MSRP $340
GREAT PRICE - HEAVY, POWERFUL CUTTER!
The term Bastard undoubtedly comes from the fact that the sword, because of its design, has no legitimate claim to being classified as either a uniquely single-handed or two-handed weapon. The Bastard sword was a weapon developed for the use of the foot soldier and had became quite common by the early 1500’s. The Paul Chen Bastard Sword made at Hanwei is finished in an antique patina, making for an outstandingly authentic appearance. The leather-covered scabbard features a patinated steel chape and tip.

I didn't pay close enough attention to the size of this beast, I just read that it was a Bastard Sword and assumed it would work one handed as well as two handed... I was wrong, this sword is simply too large and heavy for practical one-handed use. That being said, it is gorgeous, and I love it. The finish on the blade gives you that old-sword look but with all the functionality of an awesomely put together new sword. The scabbard fits well and does not fall off unless pulled, and without too much effort. There is some slight blade-rattle inside the scabbard but very minor. It came quite sharp, especially for such a large sword. I haven't much put it through any testing but it pierces leather incredibly well, and for a two-handed sword is really well balanced and feels great to swing around. For the size I would call it a war sword rather than a bastard sword, but it is nonetheless awesome and stupendous, well worth the $299 I paid for it.
