Over the years there have been several models of wide bladed and relatively thin profiled Katana designed to not just cut but literally sail through multiple tatami mats like a the proverbial hot knife through butter. Blades like the Cheness Cutlery SGC (Specialize Goza Cutter) and the Hataya Kotetsu - but these powerful cutting swords are either no longer in production or cost several thousand to purchase, leaving the only option to spend even more and go custom..
Until now that is!
In exclusive partnership with Longquan based sword production company Swordier - we are delighted to introduce the Flagship Specialized Tameshigiri Cutting Katana Model 1. It is an affordable yet very robust sword that is still well balanced, surprisingly lightweight and fast enough to be used for kata and formwork, but truly excels when faced with tatami mats or their equivalent (such as rolled up and wet newspapers on bamboo or thick green bamboo, water filled bottles, etc) - the broad but narrow profiled edge dramatically reducing friction when cutting, allowing it to effortlessly sail through not just one mat, or a double mat but at LEAST four multiple mats with a single slice from someone with ZERO training.
Whether you plan to use it to dominate competition cutting or just enjoy the thrill of effortless cutting in the backyard, the Specialized Tameshigiri Cutting Katana has you covered. The blade is made from hard wearing, monotempered 65mn Spring steel and is complimented with an iron tomoe tsuba, brass fuchigashira, alternating cotton ito wrapped using hishigami traingles over real rayskin and black lacquered wooden saya with black sageo.
If you are SERIOUS about cutting and want to truly experience that feeling of 'did I actually just cut that?' lack of impact sensation with a blade that just sails through regular targets, this is the sword for you..
