I'd been perusing through various sword sites trying to find a good sword based on price, design, material, and reputation of the brand. A lot of the swords I saw didn't feel "right" for me, until I saw this one. Under $200, green color, 1095 steel, and Ryujin branding that's described as cheap yet quality. So, I chose this as my first real sword.
Out of the box, it felt well balanced. Weight is good, not too heavy or light, just a little bit heavier than bokken and shinai that I practice with. Ito wrap is comfortable, but I don't have experience with other materials to compare it with. Saya is solid, though I'm not a fan of the glossy feel. I haven't used it to cut anything yet, but I feel the blade could be sharper.
Just swinging it in the air or part of my kendo practice, it's definitely a solid sword. The swings are firm, and nothing feels like it'll fly or snap off. I was leery about the quality of swords priced under $500, but this is a really good sword that I feel will last a long while.
