Windlass Steelcrafts The Freedom Fighter Early Scottish Claymore
Known throughout history, William Wallace became the most valiant freedom fighter Scotland has ever seen. This magnificent two-handed early Claymore has been appropriately named for its valor.
The Claymore, meaning "great sword" in Scottish Gaelic, was a formidable weapon used by Scottish Highlanders during the Wars of Scottish Independence. These swords were characterized by their long, double-edged blades and distinctive crossguards. The Claymore became a symbol of Scottish resistance against English rule, with figures like William Wallace leading the charge. Facing the Claymore was a daunting prospect for the British. The sheer size and power of the weapon, combined with the fierce reputation of the Scottish warriors who wielded it, made the Claymore a fearsome adversary. The British often viewed these swords as a symbol of the Highlanders' strength and resilience, making them a formidable opponent on the battlefield.
William Wallace, born around 1270, was a key figure in the fight for Scottish independence. He is best known for his victory at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297, where he and his forces defeated a much larger English army. Wallace was appointed Guardian of Scotland and continued to lead the resistance until his capture and execution in 1305. His legacy lives on as a symbol of bravery and resistance against oppression.
This sturdy sword measures a massive 61” in overall length. Expertly hand-forged from high carbon steel by the master craftsmen at Windlass Steelcrafts, it features a leather-wrapped handle and upper blade area for a firm grip. Though no scabbard is included, the sword arrives factory sharp and ready for display or use. The Freedom Fighter Early Scottish Claymore is a tribute to the valor and resilience of Scotland's historical warriors, encapsulating the spirit of their struggle for independence.
