Widely in use from the medieval to modern period, it is swords like this that inspired the Sabers and Cutlasses that would dominate the post Renaissance battlefield. A truly time tested, stunningly beautiful design brought to life by the artisans at Windlass. Scabbard included.
Description: Of all the sabers that originated in Central Asia, the Kilij has one of the most fascinating blade profiles in the history of curved blades. This sword displays the gracefully curved shape we picture when we think of a “saber”, combined with an innovative widening at the end to increase chopping power. This design also enables a thrusting attack, giving it a tactical advantage over extremely curved swords like the Shamshir.
This authentic replica is modeled after an Ottoman Kilij made in the 19th century, known as a “Pala”. The Kilij was prominent during the Seljuk, Timurid, Mamluk, and Ottoman empires. The striking curved blades so impressed European armies that encountered them that Western nations soon developed similar swords, which are still used today for ceremonial dress.
