Bugei Swords now at SBG! (and the flight of the Dragonfly Katana)

Remember when we said the Dragonfly Katana was the last hurrah of the old Hanwei forge? Then pivoted and called it the firstborn of the new one? Yeah… well, turns out we weren’t entirely right either time.

Because now the Dragonfly’s landed in its final—and frankly most fitting—nest: under the Bugei brand, right here at SBG!!!

And with that, Bugei swords are now officially available at the SBG Sword Store—for the first time ever. For those unfamiliar, Bugei isn’t just another brand. It’s a legacy founded by Shihan James Williams, a master of classical Japanese martial arts with decades of experience in kenjutsu, iaijutsu, and tantojutsu. His vision for Bugei was clear from the start: to create swords that could stand shoulder to shoulder with historical blades—not only in appearance, but in function, balance, and soul. These aren’t fantasy props or decorative showpieces. They’re forged with purpose, designed for serious practitioners, and grounded in deep martial tradition.

The Dragonfly’s journey—misreported, reborn, and finally reclaimed—mirrors the spirit of Bugei itself. It’s a story of evolution, of survival, of finding the right hands to carry forward a craft that still demands reverence. And make no mistake: when you hold a Bugei sword, you feel something different. The weight is honest. The edge is purposeful. The geometry isn’t a guess—it’s a reflection of centuries of combat insight and careful refinement.

There are many swords out there that claim to be inspired by tradition. But very few can say they carry it forward. Bugei doesn’t just replicate the past—it keeps it alive, one forged masterpiece at a time.

But the Dragonfly is not the only sword to join Bugei’s new line up..

The Second Bugei Sword – the Armorers Katana

Right on cue for this evolving story, the newest addition to the Bugei lineup is the Armorers Katana—a blade that proudly carries the torch of function-first design. With its no-nonsense geometry, robust fittings, and a blade profile honed for martial performance, the Armorers Katana is a love letter to practicality and purpose. It’s the kind of sword that doesn’t need fanfare—it speaks through feel, balance, and cutting authority.

Whether you’re a dojo regular or a collector who values integrity over ornamentation, this is the blade that proves Bugei’s legacy isn’t just continuing—it’s gaining momentum.

No Joke: Another Rare Hanwei Makes a Final Bow…!

As the Hanwei Forge slowly but surely runs out of their final stock clearance before an eventual reboot later in the year, they have released a few almost forgotten last change Chinese sword gems that were only made in limited quantities to begin with, and who knows when (or if) they will be coming back..

A couple are still available, such as the very last Hanwei Han Sword and the final two Tang Jian (the most affordable of the lot) – but they just added THREE (x3) stunning WOOTZ STEEL Qi Jian – a highly sought after steel and sword design that is guaranteed to delight.

Made of a solid one piece construction that rings like a bell when it hits a target or clears the scabbard, this incredibly unique and sturdy sword design is a must have addition to round out and define to any serious sword collection.

Otherwise, click below to see the final stock of available Hanwei Swords which are indeed poised for comeback, but never at these prices, never quite the same and many designs available for the very last time…

Ryujin’s Budget Battle Ready Chinese Line Restocked!

And not only that, in some cases they are CHEAPER now than before as I had mixed up a couple of prices. All are still made the same way, and all have 65mn Spring steel. Dao are back, and it’s the most significantly marked down sword:

Was nearly $300, now $196.99!

Or how about $138 for this Willow Leaf Dao?

The YONG LO sword is also back, the blade alone is worth the modest $150 price tag, but this one is a beauty..

And if you like a gentleman’s classic Jian, the two handed Tang Dynasty Jian for $169.99!

And the Chanbara sparring sets are back too!

These are incredible fun – they don’t hurt when you get hit (well, stings sometimes a little, but no special gear is really needed) and $30 for a set of 2, my kids and I love playing around with these. Available in Black, Red and Blue (sorry, no mixing and matching I am afraid).

And then there’s the stuff we haven’t had time to list yet.. You guys are in for a treat. But for now, the Cool Accessories section is bursting at the seams so see what treasures you can find there:
