Two New Tactical Designs by Scorpion Swords

While the sword as a weapon on the battlefield experienced its last days during WWII in the hands of the Japanese (and earlier in WWI when it was still being used by horse mounted cavalry) tactical sword designs improve on and evolve ancient sword design concepts and bring them screaming into the 21st century.

With the strength, purity and quality of modern steel so much better than anything ever seen during the times when the sword was still a true weapon of war, Tactical sword designs may be a mere curiosity in the age of the gun, but they sure are fun!

So with that in mind, here are two new cool SBG exclusive Tactical Sword designs – the first, a companion to our popular Tactical Ko Katana – the Tactical Wakizashi..

Tactical Wakizashi – $249.99

With enough weight behind it to cut and a viciously sharp tip for piercing, its a very intimidating and utilitarian design – and when combined with and dual wielded with the Ko Katana Miyamoto Musashi style, truly quite terrifying..

As with all Scorpion Swords it is hand cut, ground and shaped from a 3/16″ thick plate of 1095 carbon steel to create a solid one piece construction with an extra thick beefy tang.

It is then heat treated, blued and prepared for final assembly – note the 6 pins which connect it the handle scales to the full tang which are also permanently affixed in place with gorilla glue to ensure no matter how hard you use it, it will NEVER come apart..

The second new Tactical sword is actually one of the oldest sword designs around – with variations of it used by the ancient Greeks, Spartans and Celts – the classic leaf blade.

Tactical Leaf Blade – $269.99

Made first from bronze and later iron, this modern take on this ancient design is made almost indestructible with expertly tempered 1095 carbon steel and one piece tang construction just like all the others in the series.

The wide blade concentrates its force for devastating chops and cuts, while the tip is designed to pop and then open up a hideously large wound – and well balanced – its both fast and extremely intimidating.

SBG Custom Katana Updates

Just a quick update, the classic SBG Custom Katana – Batch 45 – is nearing completion at the forge. The original due date on these is sometime around this time next month which means that we are more or less on track for timely delivery as expected.

In the meantime, here’s a couple of pics of four of the swords in this batch

Talking about pictures, on a slightly different but related note, we just added some huge hi resolution pics of each of the very attractive themed sword furniture sets (Koshirae) for the limited re-release of Project X Japanese showing the tsuba’s from the front and the rear.

The pics are really quite big so you can click on them and zoom in accordingly. Here is an example of the first custom set in the series, the set we used for the Torakami Katana all those years ago..

Limited Re-release and now with CUSTOM options!

Last offered in July 2017, it has taken nearly 2 years to get to this point, but we are here with a limited re-release of our very best traditional Japanese swords from Project X!

With stunning Soshu Kitae laminated master smith forged blades decked out in the best fittings possible with no expenses spared (i.e. FULL rayskin samegawa wraps on the handles, alternating silk ito made using hishigami triangles, buffalo horn inserts on the saya – you name it, they have it) the true market value of these swords is easily closer to $2000 than the average asking price of $1000.

But even better, each sword has a carefully chosen selection of custom options and custom fittings that match the designs theme so you tweak it to your own personal tastes without accidentally creating an ugly sword. But you are also free to use any and all of the custom options from the other designs.

As it literally took two years of wrangling with the forge for them to allow this, this re-release is limited to 20 swords only – and only if everyone is happy with the results (i.e. the Forge, SBG and those who are quick enough to secure one) then we will offer them all year round..

QC standards will be applied as if they ARE $2000 swords, but with an average price of $1000 the value for money factor is off the charts (especially as you cam also request additional minor customizations such as gyaku menuki placement, kissaki length, etc).

At Least, as it was originally planned..

It took 2 years to get to this point, but as explained in previous blog posts, things did not go as well as we had hoped or needed them to continue or project to make the best fully functional fantasy swords on the market..

All the swords that we brought in or had made are now sold out, and all that is left of the project are the made to order designs by Scorpion Swords, albeit renamed..

Example, the Aelutian Gladius has now been renamed as the Celtic Fantasy Sword

You can read more about it all over on the Legendary Swords blog here (and also see a sword that was in the making before the project was canned, but will still be made as a one off custom sword for my very good lifelong friend who design it).

While the Legendary Swords site itself will go on, we can firmly state that we have no more plans to produce any more fantasy sword designs on a commercial scale – and will instead concentrate on the fantasy sword market as it exists today, provide portfolio’s for custom sword makers and making and concentrate on digital fantasy sword art such as Webcomics, digital art and even role playing elements until the site, which grew organically, finds its ultimate direction again (Plan B I guess).

In the meantime, stay tuned – because its going to be a busy month. The limited re-release of custom versions of our best quality and most respected Katana brand, Project X, is imminent – and there are also a few other surprises that have nothing to do with fantasy swords just around the corner.

Until then, it has been a ride, that is for sure.

A very lucky mistake for some..

Usually when a business makes a mistake, understandably in most cases it is the customer who gets upset.. But sometimes when a business makes a mistake, the customer accidentally gets the deal of a lifetime…

Well, it just came to our attention that there has been a mistake in the latter category – because every customer who ordered one of the Ryujin Wakizashi was getting much more than they bargained and paid for…

I don’t know why I didn’t see it either – and looking back at it in hindsight – it’s glaringly obvious..

Just take a look at the picture below at the bo-hi and no-hi versions of this Wakizashi paying particular attention to the hamon temper line..

Yes, that’s right. The Ryujin Custom Wakizashi were not the standard T10 tool steel differentially hardened blades to match the $229 Ryujin Custom Katana.. They are the ELITE Choji Midare Hamon versions to match the $469 Ryujin Custom Sword..!

This has meant for the longest time both Ryujin and SBG have been selling these excellent blades BELOW COST and every customer who ordered one unwittingly got more than they bargained for in a very good way..!

Naturally, we need to correct this quickly – it can’t continue to be sold anywhere near the $184 price tag they are currently going for. But here’s one last special chance – while we wait to get the correct adjusted pricing from the forge and raise it up to a price where we aren’t actually all losing money selling it – it is STILL available at the $184 price – but only for a day or two at the most..

So if you are a bargain hunter and in the market for a cool custom Wakizashi with a very lively and prominent natural hamon – you had better grab one of these at the accidental pricing before they go up rather significantly in price..
